What is Lamuna?
Lamuna is a combined antibabypilla which contains the gestagen Desogestrel and the estrogen ethinylestradiol. It is available in two doses: Lamuna 20 with 0.02 mg of ethynylestradiol and Lamuna 30 with 0.03 mg.
The low dosed variant Lamuna 20 contains the least effective amount of estrogen and is particularly suitable for women who are sensitive to estrogen or want to minimize side effects.
When correctly taken, Lamuna offers a very reliable concept protection with a Pearl index of 0.1 to 0.9.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Desogestrel 0,15 mg, Ethinylestradiol 0,02 mg (Lamuna 20) oder 0,03 mg (Lamuna 30)
Lamuna prevents pregnancy due to the interaction of both hormones:
Ovulation inhibition: The combination of desogestrel and ethinylestradiol suppresses the release of FSH and LH from the gland of the brain. No ovulation takes place without these hormones.
Change of cervical mucus: Desogestrel causes the mucus to become tougher in the cervical neck. As a result, sperms can penetrate harder to the egg.
Endometrium change: The cervical mucosa is constructed to a lesser extent, which makes possible indentation more difficult.
The effect presupposes that the pill is taken daily about at the same time.
Who is it suitable for?
Lamuna is suitable for women who:
- Find a reliable hormonal contraception
- Sensitively respond to higher estrogen doses (Lamuna 20)
- Want a regular cycle
- Want to have less severe period bleeding
The pill is suitable for most healthy women who have no risk factors for thromboses.
Available Dosages
Lamuna 20:
- 0.02 mg ethinylestradiol + 0.15 mg desogestrel
- Especially low dosed
- 21 tablets per blister
Lamuna 30
- 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol + 0.15 mg desogestrel
- Standard dosing
- 21 tablets per blister
Both variants are taken 21 days, followed by 7 days break.
How to Take
Intake scheme:
- Daily one tablet at about the same time
- 21 days take, then 7 days break
- In the pause a bleeding normally occurs
- After the break with the next blister start
First intervention:
- Start on the first day of monthly bleeding
- The protection is immediately
For forgotten use:
- Up to 12 hours: repeating, protection remains
- Over 12 hours: Repeat and additionally use 7 days condoms
Contraindications
Lamuna must not be taken with:
- Existing or earlier thromboses (blood clot)
- Increased risk of thrombosis (e.g. for certain coagulation disorders)
- Heart attack or stroke in history
- Heavy liver disease
- breast cancer or other hormone-dependent tumors
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Pregnancy
- Strong smokers over 35 years
- Hardly adjustable hypertension
- Migraine with aura
Possible Side Effects
Family side effects:
- Headaches
- nausea (especially in the first months)
- Breast tensions
- Intermediate bleeding
- mood swings
Other side effects:
- Weight changes
- Reduced libido
- Skin changes
Seltene but serious side effects:
- Thrombosis (blood clot)
- High blood pressure
The risk of thrombosis is lower in low dosed pills such as Lamuna 20 than in higher dosed preparations.
Interactions
The effect of Lamuna can be affected by:
- Certain antibiotics (Rifampicin, Rifabutin)
- Antiepileptic (Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital)
- currant preparations
- HIV drugs
In the event of vomiting or diarrhea within 4 hours after taking, the action can also be reduced.
