What is Uro-Vaxom?
Uro-Vaxom® is an immunostimulant (oral immunization) for the prevention of recurring urinary path infections in adults. It contains lysates (column components) of 18 different E. coli strains and trains the immune system to better prevent urinary tract infections.
Uro-Vaxom® is not a classic vaccination, but an oral immunostimulation. It is particularly suitable for women suffering from frequent recurring bladder inflammation (more than 3 per year).
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Lysate von Escherichia coli (OM-89)
Active mechanism:
- The E. coli lysates activate the immune system of the intestine (GALT)
- Stimulation of T and B lymphocytes
- Increased production of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in the urinary tract
- Reinforced defense against urinary pathogens
Clinical evidence:
- Reduction of the urinary path infection frequency by approx. 40–50 %
- In several controlled studies
- Recommended by the EAU Guideline (European Association of Urology)
- works primarily against E. coli infections (the most common pathogens)
Initiation of action: The immunostimulating effect builds up over weeks. A protective effect can be expected after the full treatment cycle.
