What is Tostran?
Tostran® is a 2% testosterone gel in canister donor for transdermal hormone replacement therapy in adult men with testosterone deficiency (hypogonadism). Each pump stroke gives off 10 mg testosterone.
The gel is applied once a day to the abdomen. The dosing dispenser allows simple and flexible dosing. Tostran® offers a good alternative to Testogel®, especially for patients who prefer an application on the abdomen.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Testosteron
Active mechanism:
- Transdermal resorption over the abdominal skin
- Restore normal testosterone levels
- Testosterone acts on androgen receptors in numerous tissues

Who is it suitable for?
Tostran® is suitable for:
- Adult males with clinical and laboratory confirmed testosterone deficiency
- Men who prefer an application in the abdominal area
Not suitable:
- Women and children
- prostate or breast cancer
- Heavy heart, liver or kidney failure
- Polycythemia
- Active child desire
Available Dosages
Dosing:
- 1 pump stroke = 10 mg testosterone
- Start dose: 60 mg (6 strokes) daily, distributed on abdomen
- Adaptation: 10–70 mg daily, depending on blood levels
Control:
- Determine testosterone blood levels after 1–2 weeks
- Hematocrit, PSA, regularly monitor liver values
- dose adjustment according to clinic and laboratory
How to Take
Application:
- Apply once a day to the clean, dry abdominal skin
- Spread gel thin and let dry
- Do not apply to genitals or chest
- Wash hands thoroughly after application
Important notes:
- Avoid skin contact with women and children at the job site
- Place covered with clothing or wash before contact
- Apply at least 2 hours before shower/bath
- Apply regularly at the same time
Contraindications
**Tostran® must not be used at:* *
- prostate cancer or suspicion
- Breast cancer
- hypersensitivity to testosterone
- Heavy heart failure
- Heavy liver failure
- Polycythemia
Preview at:
- Sleep apnea
- Prostate enlargement (BPH)
- Epilepsy, migraine
- Thrombophilia
- High blood pressure
Possible Side Effects
Family (1–10 %):
- Skin irritation at the job site
- Increased erythrocyte number / hematocrit
- PSA approach
- Acne

Selten:
- Polycythemia with thrombosis risk
- liver value increases
