What is Onbrez Breezhaler?
Onbrez Breezhaler is an ultra-long-active beta-2-agonist (ultra-LABA) with the active ingredient Indacaterol. It is inhaled once a day and offers a 24-hour bronchodilation at COPD.
Indacaterol combines the advantages of rapid action (within 5 minutes) with a 24-hour duration of action. Like Seebri, Onbrez is inhaled via the Breezhaler (capsule inhaler).
Onbrez is manufactured by Novartis. Indacaterol is also part of the combination preparation Ultibro (with glycopyrronium).

Indacaterol acts as an ultra-long-active beta-2-agonist:

Who is it suitable for?
Onbrez Breezhaler is suitable for:
- COPD continuous therapy in adults
- As a long-acting bronchodilatator
- Once daily therapy

- For asthma (not approved as monotherapy!)

Available Dosages
Onbrez Breezhaler:
- 150 μg indacaterol per capsule
- 300 μg Indacaterol per capsule (higher dose)
Dosing:
- Recommended: 150 μg once a day
- If required, 300 μg once a day
- Inhale 1 capsule once a day
** Don't swallow capsules! Always inhale at the same time of day.
How to Take
Breezhaler (capsule inhaler): 1. Remove cap, flap mouthpiece Two. Insert capsule 3. Close mouthpiece, press side buttons 4. Deep exhalation Five. enclose mouthpiece, deep breath 6. Capsule must surge 7. Keep breath 8. For residual powder: inhale again
Hust after inhalation: A short cough after inhalation is common and normal in Indacaterol. This does not impair the effectiveness.
Contraindications
Do not apply at:
- hypersensitivity to indacaterol or lactose
- Asthma as monotherapy (without ICS!)
Preview at:
- Heavy cardiovascular diseases
- QT extension
- Hyperthyroidism
- Diabetes mellitus
- Hypokaliemia
pregnant: Only with clear indication.
Style time: Not recommended.
Possible Side Effects
Acid (1-10%):
- Husten nach Inhalation (harmlos)
- Nasopharyngitis
- Headaches
- infections of the upper respiratory tract
Occasionally:
- Heart palp
- Tremor
- Muscle cramps
- Mouth dryness
- Squeeze
Selten:
- Heart rhythm disorders
- Paradox bronchospasmus
- Hypokaliemia
** The cough after inhalation is typical of indacaterol and does not affect the effectiveness.
Interactions
Reactions:
- Betablockers – can eliminate indacaterol action
- QT-extending medication
- MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants
- Potassium sinking drugs
Ingenious combination:
- With LAMA (e.g. glycopyrronium = Ultibro)
- With ICS as needed
